The articles der, die, das reveal the gender of a noun.
In case of person it is easy to recognized the gender but in case of things we don’t know what is the article.
Der löffel ( spoon )

Das Messer ( knife )
Why these objects have these articles ? No reason behind this but you have to learn this.
But there are some rules which help you identify the articles of the noun.
1. Artikel DER
Männlich Personen / Männlich Berufe
Article der is used for masculine person and masculine profession.
Beispiel / e.g :
Männlich Personen : der Vater, der Onkel ( Father, Uncle )
Männlich Berufe : der Lehrerin ( Teacher )
Wochentage / weeksdays
Der Montag, der dienstag ....Monday, Tuesday...
Monate / Months
Der Januar, der Febuar....January, February....
Jahreszeiten / Seasons
Der Winter, der Sommer....
Winter, Summer
Geografische Richtung/ Geographical direction
Der East, der west....East, West.....
Wetter / Weather
Der Regen, der Schnee, der Blitz.....Rain, Snow, Lightning...
But “die Wolke” is exception
Auto Marke / Car Brand
Der Skoda, der BMW, der Honda....Alkohol / Alcohol
Der Wein, der Sekt....Wine, Sparkling water.....
But “das Bier” this is exception
